Cody & Jill’s Engagement Session Sneak Peek – Dixon, IL

May 10th, 2012

Meet Cody & Jill, getting married this June.

I wanted to share a few photographs we picked from this engagement session that took place this past week.

One of the things that immediately struck me about Jill when I met her was how much she is laughing all the time, and how infectious that is.  And when you add Cody to the mix, it was definitely hard for her to keep it together.  They did manage to keep some straight faces for some (as you can see below), but it definitely made for a goofy great evening session and a fun time, which is what I think these sessions are all about anyhow.  :)  We’re really looking forward to their wedding in a few weeks!

Megan & Ron’s Backyard Wedding – Lake Villa, IL

April 5th, 2012

We had to share this lovely backyard wedding from a while back that was so much fun!  With a day full of laughter and close friends and family, Megan & Ron’s wedding really had some of the most fun people to be with and photograph!  Don’t believe me?  Look at a few of their reception photos at the bottom.  Thanks to Megan for sharing her thoughts of her wedding day!  I’ll let her thoughts finish the post.

Location:  ”We really wanted to have an outdoor wedding so we chose to have the ceremony in my parents yard. Not only is it lush, green and littered with trees, but built us a beautiful flower garden that added bright colors. Not to mention the sentimental aspects of being home.”

Wedding Dress:  “The dress! I knew the second I put it on that it was “the one”. Oddly enough, it wasn’t the type I went in for. Everything I wanted to try on was poofy or empire waisted and certainly NO LACE. And of course, the one I fell in love with was a lacy/beaded sweetheart bust A-line gown that was perfect for a garden wedding. It just goes to show that you’ve gotta be open minded or else you may end up wearing the wrong dress.”

Jewelry:   ”The jewelry I wore was borrowed from my Grandmother. It was very sentimental for me to be decorated in her jewelry. The necklace and earrings complimented my dress so well.”

Shoes:  “My shoes were my “something blue”. I feel like this took me the longest to find. They were shiny, navy blue slippers with some silver embellishments and bows at the toes. Not only were they adorable, they were comfy to be in all day.”

Hair & Style:  “My idea for hair and make up was to keep it up with a classy yet Bohemian feel. We added some flowers to top it off. As far as make up, I wanted to look a little more done up than usual without over doing it. I just wanted people to see me through all of the decoration.”

Memorable Moment:  ”For me personally, the most memorable moment was when.we were taking the photos before the ceremony of Ron & I not seeing each other. Just prior to that, I was in my gown and just waiting for everything to unfold.”

The Men:  My husband and groomsmen wore light grey suits. Being an out door wedding in August, black was just too hot. Plus, we wanted to try a little something out of the norm. They all looked so handsome! We couldn’t have picked a better group of guys to stand up with us.

Wedding Favors:  “I went all DIY! We chose wild flower seeds in capsules, topped off with beeswax and tied with bows to match the color scheme. It was a lot of fun to sit around with my closest girl friends and family making them along with the decorations. I was glad I did it that way. It was a bonding experience.”

Cake:  “Our cake was absolutely beautiful. It was simple but a little out of the “norm” at the same time. We picked out two ceramic blue birds as our cake topper and our florist decided to add some fresh yellow daisies. It was perfect.”

Food:  “We had a lot of vegetarian friends and family so we were very cautious of making sure they would enjoy it, too. I think we ended up choosing a veggie lasagna and a filet/chicken combo. I feel like we did our best to cover all bases. Unfortunately, I think we missed out  a little on family traditions. Either way, I think everyone ended up happy and that is all that really matters.”

Favorite Photo:  “First, this was a very difficult decision because I loved all of them. But since the decision had to be made, I chose the photo below.

The reason why I chose this photo was because it captures everything I wanted my story book to be; the love I have for my husband, the unity we share with our friends & family and that through the entire process of planning, we never lost ourselves. It was everything WE wanted it to be.”

Honeymoon:  “We went to Puerto Morelos, Mexico for our honeymoon. It was affordable, the weather was beautiful, and it was on the ocean which is something we don’t get to experience often. Not to mention that our package was all inclusive, so we always had cocktails in hand while bumming on the beach.”

Final Thoughts:  “Our wedding was truly the best day of our lives. From the rain, to the ceremony, to the reception, to Room One Sixty Four (you know who you are); there is not one thing I would change. Even the “imperfections” made our day our own and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I would do it all over again if I could.”

Rachel’s Girls & Rainbow Star Crayons

March 22nd, 2012

Every once in a while I get to babysit Rachel’s three girls when I’m out in Pennsylvania.  So, I thought I’d share some of the photos from a February trip when we decided to make some “rainbow star crayons.”  Of course this was from a tutorial found on Pinterest.  :)

Anyways!  Here’s some photos of the girls and the crayons we made together.  Pretty fun time, thanks for playing with me!

Wolf Family Life Session – Wheaton, IL

March 8th, 2012

What a fun family!  Here’s a session with the Wolfs from this past autumn in Wheaton.  This session was filled with lots of laughs and silliness, which made for great fun and great photos.  And love the colorful outfits and coordination.  A highlight of the session was the kids being great at yelling “Cheese!” during the photos so that even the adults would join in sometimes.

Bekah & John’s Wedding at The Succop Conservancy – Butler, PA

March 2nd, 2012

We’ve REALLY been wanting to share this wedding we shot for a while.  Bekah & John were such a fun and silly couple, there were so many moments to choose from, and we loved being around them.  We even got to incorporate their crossword puzzle love into the portraits.  The venue was beautiful, the details were charming, and we can’t talk enough about them!

Anyhow, Bekah wrote a few thoughts from her perspective, so I’m going to let those thoughts finish this post.  Thanks Bekah & John!

Location:  ”Our first choice for a wedding venue would have been on the top of a mountain.  We realized, however, that forcing all our guests to hike a mountain just to celebrate might seem a bit inconsiderate.  In light of that, we settled for the next best outdoor space…the Succop Conservancy.  The conservancy had beautiful landscapes, but more than that, the mission of the estate was to preserve the plants and wildlife for many years to come.  Jackpot!”
Groomsmen:  “There had never been any doubt in my mind who John’s best man would be: Middie.  The three of us worked together at a restaurant during our college years–they were bartenders and I was a hostess.  I have many fun memories of their shenanigans and the pranks they pulled on customers, other staff, and of course, me.  Aside from being the most sarcastic person I’ve ever met, Middie is a solid, dependable guy you can trust to be there for you no matter what.”

Memorable Moment:  ”Hands down the most memorable moments were the ones with my mom as she helped me with my dress and jewelry.  It would be unfair to say she was a “big help with the wedding” because she’s done so much more than that…you know, like being the best mom in the entire world for my entire life.  Most of the day was filled with other people and wedding traditions, so I treasure those few moments it was just the two of us.  She’s an amazing woman that I’m so fortunate to call Mom.”

Favorite Photo:  “It’s really hard to pick a favorite photo because Chris & Rachel took so many amazing pictures!  If I have to pick one though, it would be the (above) one were John is kissing me on the cheek and I’m laughing.  It’s no exaggeration to say he is constantly telling jokes and doing silly things just to make me smile.  This picture showcases that so well.  I have no idea what he was saying in my ear, but I’m sure it was hilarious.”

OUR BEST WEDDING PHOTOS OF 2011!!!

January 31st, 2012

Yes, it’s a little bit late to be showing our best of 2011, but we definitely wanted to make sure we did!  But even that isn’t accurate.  The truth is we take tens of thousands of images each year, and it’s quite the task to look through them all to pick out our “best.”  So did we miss some?  Yes, we did.

These photos are some of our favorite that we came across while skimming through our photographs, so if you don’t see your wedding in here, it’s most likely because we had so much to sift through :)

We want to thank all of the couples we photographed this year for letting us be a part of such an important day of their lives, and trusting us to capture it.  And also we want to say how much we’re looking forward to the everyone this year.

Enjoy!

Chris & Rachel

Maya – New Life

January 15th, 2012

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of photographing 9 month old Maya at her home.  Such beautiful long eyelashes!  View them a couple photos down :)  She gave lots of smiles which her parents helped out with by doing all sorts of tricks and gags behind me and was a joy to photograph.

Goodbye 2011

December 31st, 2011

Happy New Year everyone!

I thought we’d post a small group of photos of some of our behind-the-scenes work from 2011 as a farewell to the year.  2011 was our busiest year yet, and it seems that 2012 is lining up to be even busier.  Which is great!  We love sharing and documenting all the important and life-changing memories that we get to be a part of.  We’re very much looking forward to the upcoming weddings and portrait sessions we have this year, but until then, have a great beginning of 2012!

Oh, by the way, the baby on the right is Rachel’s daughter, who wore a mustache briefly at a friend’s wedding we photographed this year :)

Jordan & Sarah’s Sunrise Beach Wedding – Chicago, IL

December 23rd, 2011

Merry Christmas from Chris & Rachel!

We have been slaving away in front of the computers, sifting and editing photos, designing photo albums, etc.  And Rachel’s been juggling that along with laundry, cooking, cleaning, and a host of other things as well.  All that to say, we haven’t made a visit to our blog in a while.

So, in continuing with our wedding blog posts, I wanted to share this beautiful wedding as the second one in our series featuring input from the bride.
Thanks so much Jordan & Sarah for taking time to share your memories with us and our readers.
Here’s Sarah:

Location:
“Our wedding was on Oak Street Beach in Chicago, IL.  We chose this location because it has a lot of meaning to us and our relationship. We both lived near this beach when we first met and we spent every day walking along the shore as we got to know each other and start dating. Jordan proposed to me at sunrise at this beach and we thought it would be perfect to complete the circle and get married there as well. We chose to get married at sunrise and start our marriage at the very beginning of the day!”

A Favorite Moment:  “A memorable moment for me (the bride) was coming down the aisle. We had asked our friends and family to stand in two single-file lines facing each other to make our actual aisle. It was so wonderful to walk down the aisle on my dad’s arm and look every single one of my friends and family in the eye. I got to smile and exchange nods or laughter with each person as I came down, while also having the sun rise just over my soon-to-be husband’s head. Everything looked so beautiful and I was so happy.”

The Dress: “I had a really hard time finding my dress because I knew from the start I didn’t want the typical wedding dress. I didn’t want strapless, poofy, or a long train….which is exactly the only style that most stores carry. My sister found this dress and brought it to me and I knew from the second I put it on that it was THE dress. It is a 1940s Hollywood glam style with a high neckline, open back, tight, and dripping with pearls. I wore a birdcage veil with it that included a 1950s brooch from my grandmother. I love my dress because it felt so unique and fit my style and personality exactly.”

Inspiration:  “Overall, we just wanted simple, intimate, and a touch of vintage if possible. However, as we continued planning the wedding, pearls kept coming us as another theme. My dress was covered in pearls and we carried that over into the reception with pearl details. The only decorations we had at the beach were our ribbon wands in bright colors that lined our aisle and the flower petals dropped from our flower girl. We did it as simple as possible and let the beach, the lake, and the sunrise do the decorating. Overall, we wanted this to be a wedding that people remember.”

Favorite Photo #1:  “We love this photo (above) because it captures the celebration and joy of the day with our friends and family. It’s so fun to see everyone waving our ribbons and it makes me happy all over again just to look at it.”

Favorite Photo #2:  “We went from originally planning a 250 person big-bash wedding to changing it to an intimate beach wedding with our favorite people. It meant a lot to us to have our closest friends and family celebrate with us and we wanted to have a photo to remember everyone who was there.”

Wedding Party:  “Both Jordan and I are identical twins. In keeping with the simple sentiment of our wedding, we only had one person stand up for us on either side, and that was our twins. It was so fun for us to have our other half stand up and be our witness while we got married to our better half. :)

Merry Christmas!
